Born and grown up in the People's Republic of China, Shuang Li received her B.A degree in Graphic Design and M.A in Art Theory & History in China before moved to the United States in 1988. Shuang then received her M.F.A from The Department of Art, University of Oregon, one of the largest and most unique art departments in the Northwest.
As an artist, Shuang had explored a variety of medium such as gouache, watercolor, colored pencil, and mixed media in the past. In recently years, Shuang has been focusing on transparent watercolor and using landscape as her primary subject matter to explore her own unique visual language and atmosphere creation process. Her series of landscape paintings are all rich in color and sure of striking scenes, clearly demonstrating the strong influences from impressionism and famous watercolor artist such as John Singer Sargent, Winslow Homer. She is also a true believer and practitioner of design principles,the theories developed by earlier watercolor pioneer and educator Edgar A Whitney.
Member of San Diego Watercolor Society, Transparent Watercolor Society of America, California Watercolor Association, Shuang’s artworks have been favored by private collectors, also regularly exhibited in public and civil buildings, art galleries and group shows in the west with many honorable awards.
Shuang's professional skills are not limited to the realm of art producing. Before she moved to the States, she taught for six years at the Fine Art and Design School of Tsinghua University, Beijing China. During the 90ths while she was studying at the Graduate School of University of Oregon, she established the first illustration course for the Art Department and was also a popular Chinese brush painting instructor at the same time. In year 2000, Shuang also founded LINKSTWO Design & Studio in northern California, involved in great range of art creation and teaching activities.In recent years, because of her extensive teaching experiences and sophisticated watercolor styles, she has been regularly invited to teach popular watercolor workshops and classes, demo for plein air painting techniques and judge for art competitions.
After her twenty years successful corporate career, Shuang started to devote all her time and energy into painting and teaching this year. She now teaches watercolor classes and workshops both domestic and internationally, while continue to polish her own watercolor skills towards excellence. She lives with her husband in Escondido, California.
